Marilyn Higgs Hankins, 85

Marilyn Higgs Hankins, 85, a resident of Dover went to be with the Lord Friday, August 10, 2012, at the Russellville Nursing Center in Russellville.

She was born September 6, 1926, in Knoxville, Arkansas to the late Chester R. and Annie Belle Ketcheside Higgs. Marilyn graduated in 1945 from Lamar High School. She married Don R. Hankins on September 1, 1946 in Knoxville, Arkansas. Marilyn was a devoted wife and mother. She had a day care in Dover beginning in 1973 and retired in 1986, after her husband, Don retired from the ministry. She re-opened the day care in her home and cared for nearly 100 children over the years. Marilyn was given the name "Nanny" by Debbie Linton, the first child she cared for in her home. That name stuck with her over the years and still does today. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dover for over 50 years and loved to sew, quilt and was an exceptional cook. She is preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Albert, J.W., Virgil, C.R. and Everett Higgs and an infant brother and sister.

Survivors include her loving husband and best friend of 66 years, Rev. Don Hankins of Dover; three sons and daughters-in-law, Hartsel and Macil, Kenny and Paula and Jerry and Freida Hankins, all of Dover; a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Jim Radar of Fayetteville; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Monte Hankins of Dover, Erica Gardner of Little Rock, Jason Hankins (Audra) of London, Colby Hankins (Casey) of Mountain Home, Brian Rutlege (Vicki) of England, U.K., Mark Rutlege of Guyman, Oklahoma, Jessica Rutlege-Smith (Chris) of Russellville and Charlie Radar of Fayetteville; 14 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of Dover with Dr. Jeff Paxton officiating. Burial will be in the McFadden Cemetery in Dover under the direction of Conner-Hankins Funeral Home of Mountain Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, at the First Baptist Church of Dover.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Dover Building Fund, 149 SR 164 East, Dover, Arkansas 72837.
