Max Eldon Thompson, 85

Max Eldon Thompson of Mountain Home, Arkansas entered into rest at Hospice of the Ozarks in Mountain Home, Arkansas on August 2, 2013 at the age of 85. Max was born November 1, 1927 to Harve and Ethel (Kelso) Thompson. He went to elementary school at the North Star School near his home and graduated from New Market High School. Max was discharged from Army Air Corps on July 9, 1947, serving as Weather Observer.

On December 16, 1948, he married Wyleen Fletcher at Bedford, Iowa. Max and Wyleen lived in Des Moines for 25 years where he worked as a Certified Automobile technician for the Lincoln Mercury Division. In this career he excelled. In 1969, he was named one of the top five automotive technicians in the United States. The following year, he achieved the top mechanic award in the nation. In his retirement, Max became renowned as a restorer of antique clocks. Like one of his finely-tuned clocks, Max lived a life of care and high standards.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harve and Mary Ethel (Kelso) Thompson; brother, Darrell; sister, Rosalie Thompson Gray; sister, Virginia Thompson Hullinger and niece, Jolene Hardee. Max is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Wyleen of Mountain Home, Arkansas; sister, Doris Thompson Hardee and her husband Emory of Bedford, Iowa as well as dear friends Marlene and Jim Sawyer of Hardy, Arkansas. Though Max and Wyleen had no children of their own, they have a host of nieces and nephews who have always regarded them most dearly.

Services were held at Ritchie Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa on Tuesday, August 6, 2013. Visitation with the family was held Monday 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery.
