Stephen C. Morton, 66

Stephen C. Morton, 66, of Dallas, Texas passed away on December 28, 2015. He was born on September 15, 1949 in Memphis, TN. He and his wife, Kay, were married on July 1, 1972 in Dallas, TX and enjoyed 43 years together. Steve grew up in Memphis, TN and Mountain Home, AR before attending Vanderbilt University where he received a BA (Economics) in 1971. He became a Naval Supply and Disbursing Officer based in San Diego, CA 1972-1975, and then returned to Vanderbilt for law school, receiving his JD in 1978. He then practiced law in Memphis, TN for three years before moving to Dallas. Steve worked at several Dallas law firms as a corporate and securities attorney, including Worsham Forsythe Wooldridge LLP (Hunton and Williams effective January 1, 2002). He founded Morton PLLC in 2001 where he continued to work until he passed away.

Steve served at his church, Scofield Memorial Church, in various roles, from youth leader to Chairman of the Board. He was active in the Christian Legal Society, serving as President of the Dallas Chapter. Steve enjoyed playing golf, going to Texas Ranger baseball games, traveling, and flying. He held an FAA commercial pilot's certificate with instrument rating.

Steve is survived by his wife, Kay Morton, and by his children, David Morton, and his wife, Jackie, of Albany, CA, Jeff Morton and his wife, Katie, of Carrollton, TX, his two granddaughters, Genevieve Morton and Jillian Morton, and three grandsons, Josh Morton, Wesley Morton, and Andrew Morton. He is also survived by his sister, Connie Hager, of Branson, MO and her daughter, Beth Smith, and her husband, Jim, of Holiday Island, AR. Steve was predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth Drury and her husband, Ray, and his father, Richard Morton.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, January 2 at 1:00 pm at Scofield Memorial Church, 7730 Abrams Rd., Dallas, TX 75231, followed by interment at Restland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Scofield Memorial Church, 7730 Abrams Road, Dallas, TX 75231, or Christian Legal Society, 8001 Braddock Rd., St. 302, Springfield, VA 22151.
