William "Bill" R. Cook, 91

William "Bill" R. Cook, 91, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at the John and Betty Charlier Hospice Center in Evansville, Indiana. He was born in Ina, Illinois, December 31, 1924, to the late Arlie and Wilma (Ligon) Cook.

First and foremost, Bill was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. In 1985 Bill and Myra moved to the Ozark Mountains at the junction of Bull Shoals Lake and the White River. They had 30 wonderful years there where they made many dear friends and loved time spent in fellowship at the United Methodist Church of Bull Shoals. Bill made baking cookies his special hobby and took cookies to people and businesses all over the area. He was called the "cookie man".

A long time resident of Tuscola and Champaign, Illinois, he was as a coal miner and fisherman Master Mason and 32nd Degree Mason, Valley of Danville Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, where he was elected President of the Class of 1977. Bill was lived his Masonic values of "reverence for God, devotion to country, integrity, justice, toleration and service," as President of UMWA Local Union 1870 (Murdock, Illinois), Town Councilman and Township Tax Assessor (Tuscola, Illinois) and on the Illinois State Mining Board by gubernatorial appointment.

Bill is survived by his wife of over 69 years, Myra (Monroe) Cook; daughter Glenda and husband Bill Stanley of Waco, TX; daughter Christine Jones of Evansville; son Bill Jr. and wife Rose of Brecksville, OH; and grandchildren Brett Craig, Justin Stanley, Meghan Lynd, Emily Hiester, Morgann Cook, Lyndsay Cook, and Andrew Cook; eight great-grandchildren, and brother, Kenneth Cook. Siblings Doris (Cook) Shelton, John Cook and James Cook preceded Bill in death.

A gathering will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville. Memorial services with military rites will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
