Cornelius Drinkwaard Obituary
Cornelius "Corky" Andrew Drinkwaard, 97

Services for Cornelius "Corky" Andrew Drinkwaard, 97, will be private. Corky passed away on June 16, 2013 in Mountain Home.

Cornelius was born on December 17, 1915 in Rotterdam, Netherlands to Marigje and Gysbert Drinkwaard. He married Clara Dam, his childhood sweetheart from age 8, on April 6, 1940. Both sets of parents had immigrated to Roseland, a Dutch community within the city of Chicago. Cornelius was a proud WW2 Navy veteran. Following his discharge, Cornelius, a mechanical engineer, found his niche as a commercial heating/ventilating/air-conditioning contractor. Not too long after, he became the president/owner of the very successful company that he had worked for.

Corky and Clara moved to Mountain Home in 1981 and both enjoyed their memberships and friendships in the Elks and The First Presbyterian Church. He appreciated the hot lunches provided by the Van Matre Senior Center and the kind ladies that worked there. Corky enjoyed a great meal! He also appreciated the staff at the VA Clinic that was always available to "patch" him up. Cornelius loved and was grateful for his wonderful neighbors and the Suzanne Smyth Family that "adopted" him after Clara died in 2008.

Cornelius is survived by his only child, Sharon (Jim) Barthel of Phoenix, AZ; one grandson, Michael (Kathryn Worth) Harris of Chandler, AZ; one great-grandson, Vaughn Worth Harris of Chandler; and one niece and two nephews, all out of state.

The family requests no flowers. Memorials may be made to The First Presbyterian Church, The Wounded Warrior Project or a .

Clara and Corky are together again and dancing to their favorite song, "I'll Be Loving You Always". And we will too.
