Ralph H. Baxter, 86

Ralph H. Baxter, 86 of Mountain Home, AR, formerly of Rushville & Macomb, IL, went to be with the Lord at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Fayetteville, AR after an extended illness. He was born on September 1, 1927 in Oakland Township, Schuyler Co., IL the son of Herman C. & Mary L. Sargent Baxter.

He married Phyllis Gayle Ridings on March 30, 1951 in Rushville, IL. They enjoyed 63 years of loving marriage. She survives along with (3) sons, Steven Baxter & Rhea of Imperial, MO; Robert Baxter & Marilyn of Tennessee, IL; David Baxter & Cindy of Macomb, IL; (2) daughters, Joyce Bernhard & Tom of Columbia City, IN; Sara Thompson & Gerald of Fayetteville, AR; (13) grandchildren; (12) great grandchildren; (1) brother, Dwight Baxter & Eloise of Jacksonville, IL; (1) sister-in-law, Esther Baxter. He was preceded in death by his parents; (1) granddaughter; Erin Bernhard; (1) sister; Louise McClelland, (1) brother; Donald Baxter.

After being raised on the family farm he graduated from Rushville High School in 1946. After serving in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, Ralph returned home to farm in the Rushville and later Macomb area. In 1981 they moved to Mountain Home, AR where Ralph worked in the Mountain Home School District for fifteen years until retiring in 1993.

Ralph was a strong Christian role model for his children & grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Worthington Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2014 with Rev. Dixie Croxton officiating. Interment will follow in Rushville City Cemetery with Military Honors by a U.S. Army Honors Detail & Schuyler Post #4 American Legion. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
