Robert Leland Julian

Robert Leland Julian, F.A.C.H.E. of League City, passed away at home on June 12, 2013 at the age of 79, with his family at his side. He was born May 24, 1934 in Columbus, Indiana to parents Charles Reign Julian and Lucille Stoker Julian. Rob, as he was known to his friends and family, grew up to graduate from Harlingen High School, serve his country in the United States Air Force, obtain a Bachelors Degree from Southwest Texas State University, a Masters Degree in Healthcare from Trinity University, and, most importantly to him, raise a family.

His United States Air Force career spanned from April 1953 to May 1973, during which he was stationed in Iceland, England, Scotland, Indo-China, Thailand, Greenland, and Viet Nam. He served in both the Korean War and the Viet Nam War and was a member of the Air Rescue Association where he rose to the rank of Master Sergeant. He is also the distinguished recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.

Rob's civilian career in healthcare is equally noteworthy. He served for 15 years as Associate Executive Director of HumanaHospitalClearLake in Webster and was responsible for the formation of the ClearLakeCancerTreatmentCenter which opened in 1985. He also served for six years as Assistant Vice-President of Memorial Hospital Southeast in Houston. In addition, he served on the board of the PlazaSpecialtyHospital in Houston for six years, five years of which were as Chairman. His service in and knowledge of the healthcare industry enabled him to obtain the title of Life Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives in 1993.

"Retirement" did not mean slowing down. Upon leaving the healthcare industry, Rob was an active member and past CampCommander of Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War-LT. Commander Edward Lea USN Camp Number 2-Houston. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for meritorious service to the camp and was named Most Outstanding Member. In addition, he worked as a loaned executive for both the United Way and Kid's Way campaigns.

Co-workers and family alike remember him as a man with an encyclopedic memory who could speak with authority on virtually any subject, as well as the joke teller that just liked to make people laugh. He is also remembered by his loving daughter and "Daddy's Girl" Robyn as the dad who, among many other things, attended every single swimming event she was in, as well as served as Board Chairman of the League City Swim Team.

Rob was one of the rare people able to hold and thrive on positions of responsibility but most enjoyed his role as doting father and husband. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Ann Sousae Julian, daughter Robyn Reign Julian and her husband Matthew Myers, sister Ruth Jarodsky High, brother Don Eudaly (Joann), nephew Jay Jarodsky, and nieces Debbie Roome (Ted), Jodi Dennison (Don), and Penny Collins (Harold).

Rob's family extends their gratitude to his care givers that provided him with comfortable and outstanding care during his last few months.

Family and friends will gather for visitation on Thursday, June 20, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 PM. at Crowder Funeral Home, Webster, Texas. Inurnment with full military honors will take place on Friday, June 21, 2013 at 2:15 PM. at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038.
