Barbara Schornick nee Von Dreele of Clear Lake City passed away unexpectedly Monday, October 20, 2014, at the age of 75. She was born in Guttenberg, NJ, lived in New Jersey for 14 years, and lived in Albuquerque, NM, for 14 years before moving to Houston. She is survived by her husband, James L. Schornick; daughters: Robin Cunningham, Lora Hanson, and Heidi Schornick; grandchildren: Callie Cunningham and Jonathan Martin; and sister, Ethel Patterson. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ethel Von Dreele, her father, Norman Von Dreele, her brothers, John Von Dreele and Norman Von Dreele, and her sister, Eleanor Stoever.
Barbara taught school early in her career, and then she made a full time career of raising her daughters. After the girls were grown, she graduated from University of Houston Clear Lake and worked as a legal assistant in the ExxonMobil Law Department in Houston. After retirement, she donated her time working at the Harris County Freeman Memorial Library. She was an avid reader and an accomplished knitter. She was active in sailing and tennis, and she volunteered as a Red Cross Water Safety instructor. She was a world traveler visiting many countries. She spent a great deal of time enjoying her family, and she was beloved by her friends and family.
A memorial service to celebrate Barbara's life was held on Saturday, November 1, 2014, at the Bay Area Museum in Clear Lake Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation or the
