Bertha J. Ver Straten Hooper went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 2, 2014. A memorial service will take place on Friday, May 30th at 5 p.m. at University Baptist Church, 16106 Middlebrook Drive, Houston, TX 77059.

Born on the family ranch in Yoder, Wyoming on December 26, 1932 to Jim & Mona Ver Straten, she met the love of her life, Sonne Hooper, at Rockmont Bible College in Denver, Colorado. They were married July 9, 1954 in Hawk Springs, Wyoming. Their adventurous life led them and their four children to Washington State, Colorado, and Seabrook, Texas, where they have lived since 1971.

Bertha's degree was in education (Summa Cum Laude) and she was also the welcoming face at the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce before she retired in 1987. She was active in Lunar Rendezvous Festival, Bay Area Museum, and establishing the Samaritan Counseling Center. She was very involved in many areas of church life at University Baptist Church, especially the choir.

She leaves behind a family comforted by her strong faith and the knowledge that she is now with her Heavenly Father. They include her loving husband, Sonne, & four children, sons Jon Hooper and wife Leanna, Paul Hooper and wife Connie, daughters Sheila Torrance and husband Terry, and Beth Mauldin and husband Randy, and five grandchildren, a large extended family and many many friends.
