Carolyn Martinec, 66, Houston, TX joined God in Heaven at 6:42 a.m., Thursday, April 18, 2013. Carolyn was born July 23, 1946, in Rogers, Texas and graduated from Rogers High School in 1964, where she was Drum Majorette. She graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. In1968, she married John Martinec and moved to Webster, TX to proudly play her spousal role in the U.S. Human Space Program. In 1969, they moved to Atlanta, GA and lived there until 1970 while John served in the Army including a tour in Vietnam. In 1970, they moved back to Clear Lake City in southeast Houston, TX, where they have lived ever since. Carolyn devoted the last nine years of her life to her grandchildren, after raising son and daughter with loving devotion and care to their Christian upbringing, education, sports and social development. Many of her childrens' friends, to this day refer to Carolyn affectionately as "Team Mom". Her elementary school teacher and principal friends in Clear Creek Independent School District express their love to Carolyn for her caring and exceptionaldedication to the development of our youth in her role for over seventeen years as a dedicated "super substitute" teacher. Carolyn is survived by her husband, John, Houston; daughter, Wendy Pierce and husband, Mark, Pearland; son, Kenneth Martinec and wife, Janene, Houston; five grandchildren, Ashley and Ryan Martinec, Houston, Jordan and Brady Pierce, Pearland, and Cody Pierce, Kennard; two sisters, Martha Coleman and husband, Howell, Crosby and Toni Shenkir and husband, Calvin, Temple; four nephews, Bart Martinec, Austin, Calvin Shenkir, Temple, Kevin Shenkir, Temple, and Kent Morgan and wife, Amanda, Pensacola, FL; three nieces, Sandra Coleman Benoit, Dayton, Shari Coleman, Dutch Harbor, AK, and Holly Moore and husband, Derek, College Station; and numerous aunts, uncles, in-laws, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Maurine Necas. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 22, at Clear Lake United Methodist Church. Rev. Tony Vinson will officiate. A reception at the church will follow the service. A graveside service will be held at OckerBrethren Church in east Bell County near Temple, TX at 5 p.m. Serving as Pallbearers will be Bart Martinec, Derek Moore, Kent Morgan, Andy Paparella, Cody Pierce, Tony Pyer, Calvin Shenkir III, and Kevin Shenkir. Additional pallbearers at the graveside will be Paul Punchardand Neal Punchard. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, April 21, at Crowder Funeral Home, located at 1645 East Main Street, League City, TX, 77573.
