James Calvin Kerneckel passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2012 in Friendswood, Texas at the age of 84. He was born on December 28, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Byron and Mary Kerneckel. James came from a large family of five brothers and six sisters. After high school, James enlisted in the US Navy, where he served both in World War II and the Korean War. After the wars he entered into the workforce in the petroleum chemical industry. This industry is what brought him to Houston, Texas in 1977. James retired from Rice University as a Maintenance Manager in 1997.
James enjoyed carpentry, bird watching, long car rides and politics. James was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine. He is survived by his sons, Jim Kerneckel and Bill Kerneckel, a daughter, Kathy Kerneckel, four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass was held on Tuesday, November 6 at 10:00 am at St. Paul Catholic Church, 18223 Point Lookout Drive, Nassau Bay, TX 77058. In Lieu of flowers, you may send donations to the Michael J Foxx Foundation or Cystic Fibrosis foundation.
