Marjorie Lois Mendenhall Hoffman, 88, a longtime resident of Friendswood, TX passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2013. She was born on May 6, 1925 in Denver, CO. She was a lifelong schoolteacher, avid reader and always helping others with learning to read. Marjorie was involved in numerous campaigns for Republicans in Friendswood and Galveston County. She was a member of Republican Women of Galveston County, on the board of Galveston County Child protective services, appointed by Judge Yarbrough to the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) volunteering for children in Galveston County. Marjorie was responsible for raising funds for the Salvation Army, creating several Christmas gift giving parties for children in foster care in Galveston County, a teacher with Friendswood Friends Church and in League City. Because of all of her efforts, a proclamation declaration stated that April 3, 2006 from that day and onward to be Marjorie Hoffman Day in Friendswood presented by the State Representative, Larry Taylor. She was involved in state and national conferences with the Friends Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert J. Mendenhall and Leah A. Brown Mendenhall; her husband Paul Hoffman; and her daughter, Jo Elysa Hoffman Dixon.
She is survived by her daughter, Leanna Hoffman; grandchildren, Paul Francis, Olga Stanton, Aza Francis and Candace Dixon; and many other relatives and cherished friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at the Friendswood Friends Church Chapel, 502 S. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546 with Rev. David Bridges officiating. A reception will be held in the Café following the service.
