Phyllis Jane Kelley passed away on March 9th, 2013, with her daughter by her side, in Dickinson, Texas. She was 88 years old. Phyllis was born on November 19, 1924 in Harvey, Illinois, to Helen and George Dobro. She grew up in Altadena, California, joined United States Cadet Nurse Corps, and in 1947 she graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Science degree and Nursing degree, initiating her career as a Registered Nurse. Phyllis married Rolland Kelley on June 5th, 1948, and they made their home in Wichita, Kansas, raising their children, Kirk and Kathleen. In 1968, the family relocated to El Lago, Texas due to Rolland's position with Boeing. Phyllis joined Clear Lake Hospital as a Labor and Delivery Nurse where she worked for over 20 years, retiring in 1992. Family, friends, and colleagues of Phyllis remember her dedication and care for her family and people in need.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her son, Kirk Kelley, and is survived by her sister, Shirley Neel (Art), her daughter, Kathleen Kelley, her daughter-in-law, Beverly Kennon-Kelley, her two granddaughters, Shannon Kelley Weiner (Marty) and Alaina Kelley (Peter), her two great-grandchildren, Sadie and Jonah Weiner.
A memorial and celebration of Phyllis's life will take place at 2:00 on March 30th, 2013 at Crowder Funeral Home, 111 East Medical Center Blvd, Webster, TX. A reception will follow at the home of her daughter.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable donations be made. The causes that were important to Phyllis include: The Houston Food Bank, The Salvation Army, and St. Jude Children's Hospital.
