Stephen L. Morehouse, passed away quietly at his home in Seabrook, TX, December 4, 2015. Steve was born August 13, 1942, to Virginia and John Morehouse in Cincinnati, OH.

Steve graduated from St. Ignatius High School and John Carroll University in Cleveland, OH. A part-time college job led to his first career with American Airlines. After college, American Airlines took him to San Francisco for a couple of years before moving him to its headquarters in Manhattan for ten years. Then on to DesMoines, IA, and Salt Lake City, winding up in New Orleans as sales manager in 1982.

Friends and family were always of utmost importance to Steve. Every place he lived he developed lasting friendships. He loved children and animals, including his four cats and two dogs.

In 1991 Steve started a new career in real estate. He met and married Jane Mielenz in 1996. They moved to the Clear Lake area in 2003 to be closer to family.

Steve was an accomplished lifelong sailor and was a member of Southern Yacht Club of New Orleans for 27 years. He loved volunteering at the Houston Yacht Club for the last five years. He served on the education and membership committees and co-chaired the Elissa Regatta in 2015.

Steve's passion for aviation was nurtured in retirement by his weekly volunteer position at the 1940 Air Terminal Museum at Hobby Airport in Houston. He loved to collect, read and discuss books on WWII airplanes and history.

He was an active member of St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church where he volunteered with the Holy Smokers, preparing food for the parish and support for charities chosen by the group. Cooking was another passion of Steve's. His kitchen overflowed with a fine collection of cookbooks, knives and specialized cooking utensils.

Steve is survived by his wife of 20 years, Jane Mielenz; his daughter, Catherine "Katie" Morehouse and her husband, Chris Hopper of Cypress, TX; son, Stephen Morehouse, Jr. of Vail, CO; brother, Matt Morehouse and his wife, Linda of Grants Pass, OR; nephews, Jim and his wife, Lisa Morehouse of McKinleyville, CA, and John and wife, Sherri Morehouse of Petaluma, CA; mother and father-in-law, Janice and George Mielenz of Kemah; and the mother of his children, his first wife Cathy Morehouse of Cypress, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved aunt Ruth Hardy who died last year in McKinleyville.

A celebration of Steve's life will be held January 9 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church, 18300 Upper Bay Road, Nassau Bay, TX 77058. A reception will follow in the parish hall.
