The Guest Book is expired.

Mother, nurse, mechanical engineer, seeker of knowledge, a person of faith -- Susanne Spencer enriched the lives of family and friends. She considered her children, Grace and Grant, her greatest achievement.

Susanne was a graduate of Clear Creek High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing as well as Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees in mechanical engineering at the University of Texas, and enjoyed careers in both fields. She followed her father into engineering and worked in aerospace during the latter years of the space shuttle and international space station programs. As a Neonatal ICU nurse, Susanne cherished each life she touched.

Susanne served as a flight nurse for several years in the United States Air Force Reserve. She was called to active duty at Lackland Air Force Base during the first Gulf war. She had great respect for the military and those who serve.

Susanne grew up in Nassau Bay. Friends from those years continued to be important in her life.

Susanne was endlessly curious, as evidenced by the hundreds of books on every subject in her library. She continued to learn all of her life. Good music and sharp humor brought her much pleasure.

Susanne is survived by her children Grace and Grant Skaggs; parents Glenn and LuNan Spencer; sister Catherine Whitney and husband Dana; sister Carolyn Ortiz and husband Lionel; former husband Raleigh Skaggs, Jr.; and nieces and nephews William and Alice Davidson and Sands and Hannah Ortiz.

A memorial service will be held at 11 o'clock on December 8, 2012, at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church, Nassau Bay.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Susanne Spencer Skaggs Endowed Scholarship Fund, in care of Andria E. Brannon, The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing, 1710 Red River - Mail Code D0100, Austin, TX 78701.
