Edwina Halliday Shelby, 89, formerly of Clear Lake passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014 in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. She was born in Saginaw, Michigan on July 7, 1924 to Frank and Lizzette Halliday. Mrs. Shelby attended East Grand Rapids High School, DePauw University, and Michigan State College. She enjoyed gardening, playing bridge and the piano. She had been a resident of Clear Lake for 46 years before recently moving to New Mexico to be near her granddaughter and great grandson. Mrs. Shelby was involved in many garden clubs, volunteered at Interfaith Caring Ministries, and was a longtime member of Clear Lake Methodist Church. From 1974 to 1986 she was a Farmers Insurance agent and managed her husband's business, Starke Shelby Insurance. She continued to tend her garden and mow her lawn until her move to New Mexico in 2013. She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Starke Shelby. She is survived by her son, Starke Shelby, Jr. of Seattle, Washington, his wife, Jane Leonard, and grandson, Evan Shelby; her daughter, Susan Brennecke, her husband, Bob Brennecke of Houston, Texas; and her granddaughter, Mary Brennecke, fiancé, Jason Miller, and great grandson, Dashel of Santa Fe, New Mexico. A private graveside service will be held for the family. A celebration of her life, "It's Five O'clock Somewhere!," will be held Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort in Santa Ana Pueblo, New Mexico.
