Carleton M. Smith Sr.

MANCHESTER, CONN. AND MONSON, MASS. - Carleton M. Smith Sr., 63, of Monson, Mass., formerly of Manchester, Conn., beloved husband of the late Pamela (Mortlock) Smith passed away Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at home. Carleton was born Sept. 22, 1949, in St. Stephen, N.B., Canada, one of nine children to Pearl (Essensa) Smith of Vanceboro and the late Garnet Smith.

He was a Vietnam Veteran proudly serving his country in the US. Army and he was a Bronze Star Medal recipient. Carleton was formerly employed as a truck driver for the Edart Truck Company, Hartford, Conn. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed many hours along with his cousin Bobby Dyer tracking deer and fishing together.

In addition to his mother he leaves his son, Carleton M. Smith Jr. of Montville; three grandchildren, Adam Smith and Chloe Smith both of Montville, Conn., and Cheyenne Smith of East Lyme, Conn.; his eight siblings and their spouses, Dorothy Smith and Clint Charter of South Windsor, Conn., William and Geraldine Smith of New Britain, Conn., Paul and Sandra Smith of Windsor Locks, Conn., David and Theresa Smith of Enfield, Conn., Brenda and James Houlberg of Windsor Locks, Conn., Jeannie and Kenneth Trudeau of Manchester, Conn., Kenneth and Theresa Smith of Storrs, Conn., and Donna Smith of Hendersonville, Tenn.; 28 nieces and nephews; and 20 great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Virginia and Ramo Pizzichemi of Monson, Mass., David Mortlock of Coventry, Conn., George and Lucille Mortlock of Florida, Kim and George Schiebel of Vernon, Conn., and Christine Lindlau of Coventry, Conn., and all their families.

Calling hours will be held 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester, Conn. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at the funeral home.
