Mr. Arthur Benjamin DeJean departed this life on Wednesday, April 9, 2014. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at the Magnolia Missionary Baptist Church, 2830 Pine Street, in Beaumont, where the Reverend Dwight Benoit is the Pastor and Officiant. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, under the direction of Calvary Mortuary Staff. Arthur was born on October 26, 1927, in Beaumont, TX to Mr. Benjamin DeJean and Mrs. Helen Smith DeJean. He accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age, baptized by the late Reverend C.B. Bailey of Magnolia Baptist Church. He was a graduate of the 1944 Class of Charlton-Pollard High School. After graduation from high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army
where he became a Staff Sergeant and served in the Korean War
where he was wounded in combat, for which he received the Purple Heart
. After military service he attended Lincoln Business College. He retired from the United States Postal Service after thirty-five years of dedicated service. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of forty-three years, Celeste Watts DeJean. He is survived by his present wife, Lula Bennett DeJean. He enjoyed the love and companionship of their children: Vickie Clark and Gloria Prudhomme (Isiah, Jr.) of Houston; Norris Bennett, Sr. (Debra), Arnold Bennett (Beatrice) both of Beaumont; Ronald Bennett (Yolanda) of Richmond, TX; and their adopted daughter, Chelsea Bennett-DeJean of Houston; his siblings, Dolly DeJean Payton (John) and Doris DeJean both of Beaumont; and Alvin DeJean (Brenda) of Carencro, LA; two brothers-in-law, William Spivey, Sr. (Patricia) and Lafayette Spivey (Brenda) both of Beaumont; sister-in-law, Lucy Spivey of Beaumont; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one nephew/godchild; and a host of other relatives, friends, and his Magnolia Church family.
