Colonel David A. Measels U.S. Army (Retired)

U.S. Army (Retired) 1941 - 2014 David A. Measels, made his final flight into the clouds on July 26, 2014 in Gainesville, Florida. Dave was born in Beaumont, Texas on October 6, 1941. He graduated from South Park High School in 1959, attended Lamar University, received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tampa and a Master of Science degree from the Florida Institute of Technology. He was awarded numerous military medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal for Valor, and Purple Heart during the Vietnam War. Dave, upon his career retirement from military service, entered the civil sector. He worked for Science Applications International Corporation until his retirement in 2001. Surviving Dave are his beloved wife of 46 years, Kim Measels; his eldest son, Drew Measels (Kristi), who reside in Utah; his sister, Mary Vesty of Texas; and three grandchildren: Elizabeth Fleming of Kentucky, Haley and Max Measels of Utah. Preceded in death by: his father, Louis Measels; and two of his sons, David Measels, Jr. and Robert Measels. Dave will be remembered for his selfless military service to our Nation for over 31 years, as a loving and devoted husband and father, and a loyal and true friend to all. A memorial service will be held at the Interdenominational Worship Center (6470 W County Rd. 476, Bushnell, FL, 33513) on August 11, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. A prior viewing and visitation will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Florida National Cemetery (6502 SW 102nd Ave., Bushnell, FL 33513) at 2:30 p.m. Online condolences are encouraged at:
