George P. Huber Jr.

George P. Huber, Jr., beloved husband to Fran Ferrell Huber and father to Pete Huber, III and daughter, Jennifer Huber, departed earth into the arms of his Lord on Tuesday, December 25. He was 90 years old. He was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, hunter and horticulturist, maintaining his pecan trees and a vegetable garden well into his 80's. He was a kind, loving man who will be greatly missed. George was the son of first generation German immigrants, George and Emma Huber and grew up in Port Arthur, Texas, graduating as a mechanical engineer from Texas A & M during the early years of World War II. The majority of his working career was spent in Port Arthur at Ellerbee Brothers, a steel plate fabrication and construction company. He was active in civic affairs and was a lifelong member of the Rotary Club International where he served a term as its President. Serving on the Port Arthur Independent School Board during the 60's, George helped to orchestrate the landmark integration of public schools. George married Fran Ferrell on May 15, 1983. Each having lost a spouse to long-term illness, they were ready to explore the world and enjoy their life together. George was a devoted Christian and studied the Word daily with his wife. For 30 years he shared his experience, strength and hope as a friend of Bill W's providing inspiration and support to many seeking sobriety. His faith and belief that all things were possible through Christ, gave him the strength and good humor to persevere the various health challenges of his later years. George is predeceased by his wife, Leatrice Ellerbee Huber, daughter Pamela Huber, brother Fred Huber and sisters Dorothy Huber Dow and Margarie Huber Arneson. He is survived by his wife, Fran Ferrell Huber, son George P. Huber, III, daughter Jennifer Huber, grandchildren Leyla Gallander and George Peter Huber, IV; great grandchildren Sheyla, Otis and Emma Gallander. He was loved, admired and held dear by many, especially Susan and Mike Ferrell, Mariane and Reg Ferrell, Falicia and Craig Cartwright, Amberley Ferrell, Jessica and Tim Boehlke and their two children. The family would like to thank all of those who cared so lovingly for George during his hospitalizations at Medical Center of Southeast Texas and during his rehabilitation at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Beaumont. A memorial service of remembrance will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 2425 Nall Street, Port Neches, Texas.
