John Wayne Red Wothy After a long battle with cancer, John went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 5:10 pm in Beaumont, TX. John was the adopted son of the late Kernan and Marie Worthy. He was born in Lettsworth, LA on February 6, 1947. He moved to Baton Rouge at an early age and attending grade school there. After graduating from Scotlandville High School in Baton Rouge, LA in 1965, he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War
. He completed his tour of duty and was honorably discharged in 1969. After his military service, John had various professions while living in Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Vinton LA. He even participated in the construction of the 1984 New Orleans World's Fair. Before being stricken with illness, John led an active and extraordinary life. He loved the outdoors. He always made time for fishing, hunting and outdoor cooking. He was always willing to laugh with friends, tell a story or share a recipe. After living in South Louisiana all of his life, John moved to Orange, TX in the mid-1980s. He resided in Orange, TX for the remainder of his life and worked for the City of Orange. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kernan Worthy and Marie Banks Worthy; one brother, Elvin Platt and a sister, Albertha Jenkins Platt. John was a devoted husband, father, brother and friend. He leaves to mourn his departure; his devoted wife, Major R. Worthy of Orange, TX.; two sons, Darryl W. Worthy (Kimberly) of Pearland, TX and Tyrone D. Papillion (Brandy) of Lake Charles, L A.; one daughter, Gina R. Worthy of Vinton, LA.; three step-sons, Richard D. Scott (Brushelle) of Orange, TX, John Cotton, Jr. (British) of Port Arthur, TX and Willie G. Scott (Anita) of Orange, TX.; two sisters, Erica Platt of New Orleans, LA and Tina Platt of Baton Rouge, LA.; fourteen grandchildren, Ashley Worthy, Austin Worthy, Dillon Worthy, Kyron Davis, Jr., Janee' Worthy, Brooklynn Papillion, Nikki Feathers, Markee Scott, Seba Scott, Jaylon Cotton, Jon'niya Cotton, Trevon Scott, Tristen Scott and Tristiney Scott; three great grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews. John was loved and will be greatly missed. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for all of the love and support shown by all John's caregivers during his various illnesses and especially Kevin, Desiree' and the rest of the wonderful team at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont, TX. Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel in Beaumont, TX with the Reverend Cleveland Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 AM before the service on Saturday.
