Virgil H. "Sue" Cook Sr.

Virgil H. Cook, Sr., 73, of Houston, TX, passed away at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston, on Sunday, September 23, 2012. Sue, as he was fondly known to his family and friends, was a native of Center, TX, and grew up in Beaumont, where he lived most of his life. He retired from the U. S. Army and from the Merchant Marines. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Audrey Mae Cook; six siblings; and his daughter, Carla Cook Barker Balque. Sue is survived by his sons, Virgil Cook, Sr. and Larry A. Cook; brother, M.C. Cook; a very special cousin, Leola D. Barker; sister-in-law, Ellaner Cook; grand-daughters, Courtney Balque and Paige Balque; ten grandsons; eight great grandchildren; and a loving host of other family and friends. Celebration of Life services for Sue will begin at Comeaux Community Funeral Chapel, (624 Irma Ave.), on Friday, September 28, 2012, with a visitation from 1:00 p.m. until the Gathering of Family and Friends from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012, at high noon at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor James Barker, Jr. Virgil will be buried with military honors at Live Oak Memorial Park, under the professional care and direction of the Comeaux Community Funeral Chapel staff and family.
