1936 - 2015 Allen Garland Hathaway, Jr (A.G), aged 79 of Lumberton, passed from this world Tuesday morning. Born 05/06/1936 in Orange, Texas to A.G, Sr. (Buck) and Ollie Mae (Boyer) Hathaway, he was the oldest of 3 sons. He lived in Orange until the age of 6 when the family moved to Buna and graduated Buna High School in May of 1954. In June of 1954, A.G. joined the U.S. Marine Corp serving 21 years and retired with the rank of Master Sargent. During his military career, he served 3 tours in Vietnam. During the war he worked as a surveyor, plotting infrastructure for base camps. As a master marksman, A.G. earned many championship medals for rifle and pistol matches. After retiring from service in 1976 A.G. went to work for Smith International as a directional driller. He traveled the world with Smith International until 1987. In 1997 A.G. and his wife, Sandy, opened A.G.'s Feed & Seed in Silsbee. Until his recent illness he could be found working there seven days a week. A.G. was predeceased by his parents, his brother Joseph Denman Denny Hathaway and his nephew James Clinton Hathaway. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sandy Hathaway; daughter Mary Beth Hathaway Diaz and husband Jerry Diaz; daughter Valerie Hathaway; Granddaughters Danielle Diaz, Casey Diaz and Keisha Moles; Great-grandchildren Bethany Diaz, Junior Loza-Diaz and Caleb Loza-Diaz; Brother Guy N. Rusty Hathaway; Nephews Guy Pistol Hathaway, Charles Hathaway, their children and grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Stringer Funeral Home of Buna, Texas on Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. Graveside service will be held at Antioch Cemetery in Buna, Texas on Friday, June 26. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10:00 A.M. for processional to the cemetery.
