Alvin Ray Marshall, 81, of Newton, Tx, died on Oct. 2, 2012, at M. D. Anderson hospital in Houston. He was born on March 18, 1931, in Hutton, La. and was a longtime resident of Newton. He was a retired forester with Temple-Inland and was a U. S. Army veteran. He is survived by his children, Robin Marshall of Baton Rouge, La, Rhonda Delatte of Newton, and Rick Marshall of Newton; sisters, Laverne Jackson of Leesville, La. and Christene Allen of Newton; grandchildren, Heather Dore, Alanna Pritchard, Ashton Melancon, Ashley Marshall, Kristina Marshall, Brandon Ordoyne and Victoria Delatte; great grandchildren, Haylee Dore, Maddie Marshall, Emma Delatte, Snow Pritchard, John Henry Ordoyne, and Daniel Ordoyne; and ex-wife, whom he remained close to, Betty Marshall. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman Marshall and Leathie and Jasper Cedars; sister, Jean Stokes and son-in-law, Robert Delatte. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., at Smith Funeral Home in Newton, with burial to follow at the Newton City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday morning until service time, at Smith Funeral Home.
