Andy Mitchell, 52, of Nederland, died Monday, October 1, 2012, at his residence, after a lengthy battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease. Born August 4, 1960, in Groves, Andy was the son of Thelma Woodcock Mitchell and Tony Mitchell. Andy was a United States Navy Veteran and was an architect draftsman. He enjoyed and loved being a dad to his two sons most of all. Andy loved music, not only as a listener, but as a writer and singer himself. He enjoyed writing about his life and faith in God through his blogs. Andy was an avid motorcyclist, which he enjoyed very much. Most of all he loved his family and friends. Andy loved life to the fullest! He is survived by his sons, Fred Mitchell and Sean Mitchell, both of Houston; parents, Thelma and Tony Mitchell of Votaw; brothers, Joey Mitchell and his wife, Sherry, of Nederland; Phillip Achord of Hershey, Pennsylvania; and Kelcie Achord and his wife, Vickie, of LaPorte; and sister, Elaine Harrison and her husband, Doug, of Houston. Andy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Delia and Floyd Woodcock and Joe and Lucy Mitchell. A gathering of Mr. Mitchell's family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., with a memorial service at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Broussard's, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His committal was held at Broussard's Crematorium, 5150 Stivers Drive, Beaumont. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the caregivers of Earth Angel's, Beaumont, for all the care provided for Andy over the last couple of years.
