Carmond E. Horn, 85, of Hemphill, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2012, at his daughter's house in Sour Lake, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on July 19, 1927, in Southwest Missouri, to Zona Gregg Horn and Willard Horn. He attended Fairdale Baptist Church in Hemphill, where he and his late wife, Shirley Horn, made their home in the Toledo Beach Community on Toledo Bend Lake. Carmond served in the United States Navy from March of 1945 until July of 1948. After his naval service, he attended Sacramento Junior College, where he obtained a General Electrical Certificate, which served him well throughout his career. He married Shirley Teeter in 1950, which brought four children in this union. He will always be remembered for his bright warm smile and willingness to help others. His sincere passion for his family, friends, and neighbors will never be forgotten. Survivors include his children, Sherryl Bair and her husband, Robert Pyle, of West Palm Beach, Florida; William Bill E. Horn and his wife, Deborah, of Duncan, Oklahoma; and Deborah S. Frederick and her husband, David Lee Burns, of Sour Lake; daughter-in-law, Tricia Horn; grandchildren, Jason Bair, Joshua Bair, Marcie Cordes, Brittany Bruno, Christopher Horn, Angela Templin, Colton Horn, Ryan Horn, Cassandra Richmond, Nicole Frederick, and Bobby Frederick; and sisters, Verabelle Liz Cooper and Norma Lewis. Carmond is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Horn; son, Michael Eugene Horn; and parents. A memorial service for Mr. Horn will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 4, 2013, at Fairdale Baptist Church, 150 Macedonia Lane, Hemphill, under the direction of Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His committal will be held at Broussard's Crematorium, Beaumont. Complete and updated information may be found at broussards1889.com.
