Carol Annette Kelly Long, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, December 22, 2013. Carol was born on August 13, 1939, in Montgomery, Alabama, to O.R. and Doris Kelly as the oldest of 10 siblings (Judy, Charles, Patty, Sally, Bobby, Linda, Johnny, Debbie, and Dianne). She grew up in numerous places until her family settled in Beaumont,Texas. Carol enjoyed a long loving marriage with Melvin Long and shared many adventures with their family along the way. Carol loved people, from those she just met, to lifelong confidantes, and all special people in between. Carol also loved JFK, Bill and Hillary Clinton, her beloved puppy Kirby (the only dog she ever loved!), and slot machines. Carol reveled in the outdoors, whether it was hunting, riding dirt bikes and snowmobiles, or searching for unique rocks. She greatly appreciated and basked in the beauty of the Rocky Mountains and the Red Desert of Wyoming, which led her to become a strong advocate concerning environmental issues as an outspoken leading member of Pollution Solution. Last but not least, Carol deeply loved, cared for and nurtured her family. Because of this, she freely and often shared her opinions and offered advice for growth and self-reliance. She was a force to be reckoned with in all matters close to her it family, environment, equal rights, politics, NASCAR, or football. Carol is survived by her husband, Melvin Ray Long; her two sons, Thomas Zane Long and Joel Blane Long (Elizabeth); stepsons, Shane McCorkle, Steven Long, and Mark Long; her grandchildren, Shanna Nicole Long, Samantha Michelle Long, Melvin Blane Long (Krystal), Cassandra Cassie Marie Long-Hall (Eugene), Cheyanne, Megan, and Lisanne Evans, Sarah Long Mix (Austin), and Brooke Long; great- grandchildren, Branson Noah Biel, Axel Tanner Long, Ryder Mix, and Easton Mix. She was preceded in death by her parents.
