Charles Abshire, 75, of Nederland, died Monday, May 7, 2012, at Methodist Hospital, Houston. Born October 15, 1936, in Lake Arthur, Louisiana, to Rose Lee Davis and Cleveland Joseph Abshire, he was a resident of the Mid-County area since 1946. Charles will be remembered as an excellent wood craftsman, and as enjoyed traveling. He was a devoted grandfather to his granddaughters. Charles was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and was employed with the City of Nederland as a water plant manager. He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Freddie Abshire of Nederland; son, Charles Dwayne Abshire of Port Arthur; daughter, Reneé Haygood and her husband, Kimuel of Lumberton; granddaughters, Stormie Sammons and her husband, Aaron of Buna and Hannah Haygood of Lumberton; brothers, Allen Abshire and his wife, Laura of Port Arhur and Clifford Abshire of Beaumont; and sister, Vivian Fletcher OF Carthage. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Cleve and Rose Abshire. A gathering of his family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 10, 2012, at Broussard's, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 11, 2012, at Broussard's, with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
