1928 - 2014 Services for Charlie Joe Propes, 85, of Kilgore, TX will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2014, at the Ford Chapel of First Baptist Church, 209 E. South Street, with Dr. David English and Dr. Cary Hilliard officiating under the direction of Welch Funeral Home, 4619 Judson Road. Mr. Propes passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2014, at his residence. Mr. Propes was born September 15, 1928, in Henderson, Texas to David Earl and Ruby Lee Perry Propes. He was a district clerk with Texas Eastern Pipeline until his retirement in 1987. Mr. Propes was a member of the First Baptist Church of Longview where he was a deacon and a dedicated Sunday school teacher. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. Mr. Propes was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Delbert. Mr Propes is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jerry Satterwhite Propes of Kilgore; three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Marsha Propes of Streetman, Texas; Pat and Tricia Propes of College Station; Tim and Carla Propes of Dripping Springs, Texas; one daughter, Tere Parson and her fiancé, Tony Anderson of Kilgore; Papa to 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Phyllis Propes; and nephew, Jay Propes. The family wants to thank Tim, Michelle, and the entire staff of Heart'sWay Hospice for the care they gave to Charlie. The family requests memorials be made to Heart'sWay Hospice, P.O. Box 5608, Longview, Texas 75608 or a charity of the giver's choice. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2014, at Welch Funeral Home.
