Funeral services for Clarence Edward Slick Matthews, 82, of Jasper, will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper, with entombment to follow in Evergreen Garden of Memories Mausoleum. Slick died April 10, at his home in Jasper. A native of Vinton, LA, he had lived the past 20 years in Jasper. He had retired from the Houston Chronicle after 17 years, & was a former long time employee of the Jasper Newsboy and a member of The Almina Shriners. Slick was a member of the Houston Masonic Lodge #1294. Survivors include one son, Lynn Edward Matthews & wife, Caroline of Kirbyville; two daughters, Donna Joyce Yoas & husband, Charles Everett of McKinney, TX and Barbara Ann Crisp of Galveston; one brother, George Lee Matthews & a niece, Terri Layne Hatch, both of Brazoria, TX; 7 grandchildren, Betsy Ann Henslee, Kathy Bussell, James Edward Matthews, Kasandra Irene Sunday, Christopher Lynn Matthews, Chad Everett Yoas, & Curtis Everett Yoas; and 11 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Howard Edward Matthews & Mamie Margarite; & wife, Betty in 1984 & Leona in 2001. Memorials may be made to Shiners Hospital, 815 Market Street, Galveston, TX 77550.
