Corporal William Aaron Newton, Jr., died February 7, 1951, in Korea. He was born on May 22, 1928, in Sikestown, Missouri. Corporal Newton entered the United States Army December 29, 1948, and served in the Far East command. On November 30, 1950, Corporal Newton was with the Headquarters Service Company, 2nd Engineer Combat Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division and after a battle with enemy forces, he was reported missing in action near Kunnu-ri, North Korea. Following the war, returning United States service members were reported that he had been captured by the Chinese and died in February 1951 while held captive in prisoner of war Camp 5 near Pyoktong, North Korea. Survivors include his daughter, Diane Bullock and her husband, Daryl, of Sour Lake; sisters, Brenda Rodman of California and Shirley Nolan of Palm Springs, California; grandchildren, Lonnie Mullins of Monticello, Indiana and Jimmy Mullins of Sour Lake; nine great- grandchildren; and two great- great- grandchildren. A graveside service for Corporal Newton will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, December 20, 2013, at Pine Ridge Cemetery, 13430 FM 421, Sour Lake, under the direction of Broussard's, 530 West Monroe, Kountze.
