Devere Sanson passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Jasper Memorial Hospital in Jasper. Devere was born to E. W. and Lela Sanson on April 23, 1923, in Deville, LA. Funeral services will be on Sunday, May 20, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Newton, with burial following at the Newton City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Smith Funeral Home in Newton, TX. Devere graduated from Jena High School and served in the U. S. Army Air Corps in World War II. He graduated from Louisiana College and also graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Bro. Sanson served as Pastor from (1951 - 1993), Providence Baptist Church, Rosepine, LA (1951 - 1955), Loch Arbor Baptist Church, Schwartz, LA (1955 - 1960), Ludington Baptist Church, DeRidder, LA (1960 - 1966), First Baptist Church, Newton, TX (1966 - 1993). He held many leadership roles in a variety of church and community organizations. He was named Pastor Emeritus of First Baptist Church, Newton, upon retirement. Devere was preceded in death by his brothers, J. B., M. F., Elwood, and Charlie Sanson; and sisters, Marjorie LaCrois, Frozine Cloessner, and baby, Shelby Sanson. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Bea Sanson; his sons, Jonathan and Stephen Sanson and their wives, Ivy and Libby; grandsons, John James, Jacob and Cameron Sanson; granddaughters, Brande and Kaitlin Sanson; sisters, Emma Nelson and Dot King. Memorials may be made, in Bro. Sanson's memory, to the First Baptist Church, Newton, the Newton County Library or the .
