Don I. Bassana, Sr. of Beaumont passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at the age of 84. Don was born in Sedalia, Missouri. He spent his early childhood growing up in Missouri and Italy. He was proud to say he learned to walk while they lived in Italy. He and his family moved to Southeast Texas when he was thirteen. Don lived in Beaumont most of his life. He joined the United States Marine Corp and was honorably discharged as a World War II veteran. He is survived by his sons, Friar Don Bassana, Jr. of San Antonio; Jon Bassana and his wife, Phoebe; and Ron Bassana and his wife, Joan, all of Beaumont; daughters, Dona Johnson of Beaumont and Alissa Bassana of Austin; and grandchildren, Jessica Peterson and her husband, Dustin, Giovanni Bassana, Joshua Bassana, Jordan Thibodeaux, Jake Johnson, Nick Johnson, Hannah Bassana, Marina Bassana, Hart Bassana, Patrick Bassana, Jack Bassana, and William Bassana. A Christian Vigil for Mr. Bassana will be at 6:30 p.m., with gathering of his family and friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., on Sunday, June 2, 2013, at Broussards, 2000 McFaddin Avenue, Beaumont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 3, 2013, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 2715 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Franciscan Friars, Province of Our Lady of Consolation, 101 St. Anthony Drive, Mount St. Francis, Indiana 47146.
