Dorothy Mae Gibbs Jones passed away on August 7, 2013, at the age of 87. She moved to Beaumont after graduation from Colmesneil High School to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree from Lamar State College of Technology and was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Dorothy subsequently received a Masters of Education degree from Lamar University. She retired in 1992 from the Beaumont Independent School District as a Third Grade teacher at Roy Guess Elementary School after thirty years of service. She was a Master Gardner, enjoyed her yard, reading, and her cats. Dorothy is survived by daughters, Diane Gibbs Jones Smith of Lumberton, Texas and Sharon Marie Jones Beekman of Conway, Arkansas; grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Stacia Smith Newton, Jason Lee Trahan, Jared Wayne Trahan, all of Beaumont, Texas, Allison Beekman Blair of Kingwood, Texas, and Andrew Beekman of Fayetteville, Arkansas; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack Murphy Gibbs of Fred, Texas and Thomas Elmo Gibbs of Colmesneil, Texas; and sister, Mary Alice Gibbs Davis of Houston, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, A. E. Jack Gibbs and Lucille Poindexter Gibbs; and her daughter, Marlot Kay Jones Trahan A gathering of Ms. Jones' family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., with her funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2013, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A graveside service will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at Davis Cemetery, County Road 3725, Colmesneil. Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of Southeast Texas, P.O.
