Frances B. (Mimi) DeMent, 92, most recently living with her family in West Chester, PA went to be with the Lord and her beloved husband on Wednesday, January 29, 2014. She left us as she slept with a look of peace on her face that could only come from knowing God's Grace. Born in Boothton, Alabama, as Frances Bernita Bishop, she grew up in and around Birmingham. In 1946 she married the love of her life Dock Benjamin DeMent, Jr. They lived in Arkansas and Louisiana before settling in Beaumont, Texas in 1955 where Dock was a math professor at Lamar University. Upon receiving her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Lamar in 1958, Frances spent 18 years in the classroom in Beaumont. In 1971 she was selected Teacher of the Year for the state of Texas. In 1975 she earned her Master of School Administration degree, again from Lamar and for several years was responsible for remediable mathematics for the Beaumont Independent School District. She finished career with what became her true passion, as Principal of St. Anthony's Cathedral School in Beaumont. In 1994 Mimi retired and moved with Dock to the DeMent family home in Montevallo, Alabama where her green thumb turned the farm to a floral showplace. She also pursued her love of baking and cooking making many birthdays and weddings a little more special with her cakes. In addition she organized a weekly fellowship dinner at the First Methodist Church in Montevallo, which she prepared and served every Wednesday night for years. Upon her husband's passing in 2006 she moved to West Chester, Pennsylvania to be with her son Crit and his family. Frances is survived by her son Crit S.
