She grew up in Spring Valley, California, a suburb of San Diego. On her first day of the 9th grade she met the love of her life, Larry Hamlin. She and Larry graduated high school together in June of 1958 and were married in September of the same year. Their marriage produced three daughters - Lori, Dana and Jill. For 21 years Hazel enjoyed her role as mother and housewife while Larry worked for the Woolworth Company. In 1979, in Beaumont, Texas, they purchased the Al Cook Nursery and established the Hamlin Nursery and Company. They worked jointly in this business for 23 years, retiring in 2002. In 2009, they built their lake home and moved to Beaver Island on Lake LBJ. Hazel, with Larry always by her side, courageously fought the disease ALS for three years. She passed away on November 15, 2015. In addition to Larry, Hazel is survived by her three daughters, 4 granddaughters, 6 great-grandchildren, brothers Gary Martindale, Sam Martindale, Paul Martindale and sister Cheryl Martindale.
