Iris Fern Flowers died peacefully on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Mainland Center Hospital, at the age of 85. She was born on April 15, 1927, in Buna, Texas, to Arcay and Lillie Waters. She was a very sweet loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who lived with a strong faith in God. Iris was a woman ahead of her time, having acquired her Real Estate Broker's license in the early 1950's and working for nearly 40 years in the real estate business. She loved people and never met a stranger. She would love to buy homes, move her family into them after fixing them up and then selling them. Her friends often called her a gypsy! In addition to her parents, Iris is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Wallace Dan Flowers; her sons, Wallace Dan Flowers, Jr. and Bill Kenneth Flowers; her brothers, Raymond Walters, Milton Walters; and sister, Norma Jean Eddy. She is survived by her daughters, Karen Flowers and husband, Ted Shook and Sheri Tholen and husband, David; and sister, Nita Wellman. She adored her grandchildren and great-grand- children, always giving them encouragement, love and support. She had six grandchildren, Erica Flowers Hollister (Bobby), Ryan Dowdy (Alison), Casey Dowdy, Trenton Flowers, Amber Tholen, and Travis Tholen. She had three great-grandchildren, Hayden Hollister, Pierce Hollister, and Teja Tholen; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 17, 2012, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at J. Levy & Termini Funeral Home, 2128 Broadway, Galveston. A private graveside will be held at Antioch Cemetery in Buna, Texas, on Monday, June 18, 2012, at 11:00 a.m, with Reverend Joe Wellman officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Shook, David Tholen, Ryan Dowdy, Travis Tholen, Trenton Flowers, Bobby Hollister, Hayden Hollister, and Pierce Hollister. The family wishes to thank Dr. Nehme Alkarra, Dr. Beverly Lewis, the wonderful staff at Mainland Center Hospital and the A-Med care team of Lois and Shirley.
