James Jimmy Sheppard, 76, of Kirbyville died Sunday, June 23, 2013, at Avalon Place in Kirbyville. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, at First United Methodist Church in Kirbyville with burial at Antioch Cemetery in Buna. Visitation will be 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Adams EE Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville. Jimmy was born in Buna, Texas was a lifelong resident there except the last 3 years. He attended Lamar University in Beaumont and McNeese State at Lake Charles, La. where he received his Master's Degree and later received his Doctorate's Degree from A & M in Kingsville. After college he began an outstanding coaching career in basketball. He guided teams to the high school state tournaments several times. He played a major part in molding many high school athletes to become outstanding young men in our area. Jimmy was selected Outstanding Coach for the golden triangle in his career. Today he is looking for a few of his former players who went on to Heaven to welcome him home. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Nelda Sheppard of Kirbyville; brother, Joe Sheppard of Buna; sister, Bonnie Rose Hippler & Emmitt of Magnolia; and a brother-in-law, Ray Hamilton of Kirbyville.
