1933 - 2015 James L. Beard Jr., 82, of Lumberton, died December 19, 2015 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. He was born February 27, 1933 in Port Arthur, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents, J.L. and Daisy Beard, brothers Willy and Glen Beard, and grandson Jason Keith. He was a lifelong resident of Loeb, TX. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Bataan and was awarded 3 medals & 5 stars for service in the Korean War. He was a member of North End United Pentecostal Church in Evadale, TX and loved his church. He was a retired home builder and a master carpenter. He loved to hunt and fish. He coached Little League Baseball for 20 years and made an impression on many kids who grew up and loved and respected the man, who did the same to them. Also known by PawPaw Beard, his sweet memories and love will remain in the hearts of his family who he always put first. The greatest thing he ever did for his children was to love their mother for over 60 years. He is survived by the love of his life, Norma Joyce Beard, whose silent tears still flow and heart still aches for him. He has 4 surviving sons, Jim and wife Peggy, Rodney and wife Hazel. Darrell and wife Stacy, Roger and wife Christine, 1 daughter, Penny Burwitz and husband Todd, stepson David Pruitt and wife Debbie, 10 grandsons, 9 granddaughters, and 25 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind 2 brothers, Roy Beard and Lonnie Beard, and sister Mary Harris, all of Loeb, TX. Jimmy Beard was a great man. Fair, honest, loving, and devoted to his family. He never boasted of his accomplishments, but was quick to give accolades to others. He will be missed so much and our lives were enriched by having him as a part of it.
