Dr. James Rual Perkins Funeral services for Dr. James Rual Perkins, age 79, of Beaumont, Tx., will be held at 11:30 A.M., Friday, November 15, 2013, at First Baptist Church, 314 North Main Street, Jasper, Texas, with a reception of family and friends to follow at the church. A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, November 14, 2013, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 1350 N. 23rd Street,, Beaumont, Tx. Dr. James Rual Perkins, age 79, of Beaumont, passed away on November 12, 2013 following a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was born in Waco, Texas on July 17, 1934 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Rual Hansel Perkins. He attended Baylor University and also graduated from Baylor Dental School in 1956. Jimmy was a long time resident of Jasper, Texas and was dedicated to his faith, his family and his community. He served our country in the United States Air Force as a Captain. Upon arriving in Jasper in 1959, he opened his dental practice where he cared for his patients for 44 years. In his years in Jasper, he served as an elected official on the original Jasper Memorial Hospital Board, he was President of the Jasper Lions Club and he was President of the Jasper Country Club. He was a long time Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church. Jimmy served on the Don Anderson Ministries Board in Tyler, Texas. He also volunteered on the Mercy Ships traveling to Nicaragua on two separate medical mission trips. Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Carolyn, and by his children Marcy, Ann and Jamey, sons in law, Dev Gregg and Kyle Hayes and daughter in law, Catey Perkins. He is also known as Doc to 9 grandchildren, Casen Gregg, Conner Gregg, Callie Gregg, William Reese, David Reese, Walker Reese, Harrison Hayes, Ashton Perkins and Trevor Perkins. In addition, Jimmy is survived by two sisters, a brother and their spouses, Mary Martha and Billy Harper, Sara and Jim Long, John and Paula Perkins. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Perkins. Jimmy loved his long walks on the beach with dear friends and seeing the world with Carolyn, the love of his life. He also enjoyed a good round of golf. His life was forever impacted by his dental school roommate, Ron Wideman - a man who encouraged him throughout the years. Although Jimmy battled Parkinson's, one never heard him complain. He knew his life was in his loving Savior's hands, and he lived through this time with great faith. He was a man to be remembered by his giant smile, his wonderful sense of humor and his large laugh. He will be greatly missed.
