1936 - 2016 J.E. Sherman, 79, died Thursday, September 15, 2016 at his home in China. He was born on December 10, 1936, to Vallie Mae Clark Sherman and Ervin Sherman, in Beaumont. J.E. retired as a road and bridge foreman for Jefferson County Precinct #1 and retired as manager of Devers Rice and Canal Company. He has lived in China his whole life. Survivors include his loving Bride of 55 years, Sandra Kiker Sherman; daughters, Debbie Thornton and her husband, Jerry, of China, and Shelle Samaha and her husband, Jimmy; grandsons, Austin and Wyatt Samaha, all of China; sister-in-law, Paula Sherman of Beaumont; and several nieces and nephews, of whom he was very proud. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Dalton and Keith Sherman. A gathering of Mr. Sherman's family and friends will be from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, September 18, 2016, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 19, 2016, at China United Methodist Church, 205 West Washington Avenue, China. His interment will follow at China Cemetery, Benoit Ave., China. A community lunch fellowship will follow the interment at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Hall in China. Memorial contributions may be made to Old China School Reunion Memorial Scholarship Fund, Box 357, China, Texas 77613. This scholarship is awarded annually to a Hardin Jefferson ISD student.
