1935 - 2015 Johnny W. Atkins, 80, of Beaumont, died Wednesday, July 22, 2015. He was born on June 20, 1935, in Wichita Falls, to Irene Watson Atkins and Johnnie Ray Atkins, and had been a longtime resident of Beaumont. Johnny was actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America for over seventy years, serving as a member and professional. He served as Scout Executive for the Three Rivers Council for over twenty years. Johnny was a loving husband and father, and was a very giving person. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Rotary Club, and United Way. Johnny spent countless hours volunteering for Some Other Place, the Beaumont Public Schools Foundation, United States Navy Days, and Clifton Steamboat Museum. He is survived by his wife, Jennie Atkins, of Beaumont; children, Julie Laughlin and her husband, Rick, of Beaumont; Debora Brabson and her husband, Charles, of Humble, and Kirk Atkins and his wife, Donnis, of Kingwood; grandchildren, Courtney Laughlin, Troy Laughlin, Lauren Brabson, Logan Brabson, and Caleb Atkins; and brother, Paul Atkins, of Wichita Falls. Johnny is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Raymond Atkins. A gathering of Mr. Atkins' family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 24, 2015, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 25, 2015, First United Methodist Church, 701 Calder Avenue, Beaumont, with interment to follow at Magnolia Cemetery, Beaumont.
