Joseph Joey Dudley Johnson III, 25, of Beaumont, died Sunday, May 26, 2013, following a motorcycle accident. A lifelong resident of the area, he was born on March 21, 1988. Joey was a 2006 graduate of Hamshire-Fannett High School and a 2012 graduate of LSU-Alexandria, Louisiana. He was employed by Wyatt Field Services as a boilermaker. The major part of Joey's life was spent playing baseball, a sport he lived, loved, and breathed. He had a passion for the game like no other, which began at the early age of four years old and continued thru his high school and college years. His efforts paid off landing a college scholarship and the title of High School 2006 District 24-3A Defensive MVP and 1st Team All District Outfielder. Joey was blessed to be a part of a National College World Series Championship with the LSU-Eunice Bengals in 2008, and he proudly wore the championship ring. Survivors include his mother, Donna Walton Johnson and her husband, Paul Dunnaway, of Beaumont; father, Joe Johnson, Jr. and his girlfriend, Jonell Dee, of Beaumont; fiancée, Cortney Kennedy of Denham Springs, Louisiana; grandparents, Betty Hanes and Doris Hickman, both of Beaumont; uncles, Carl Johnson and his wife, June, of Beaumont; Clay Johnson and his wife, Kelli, of Lumberton; Phillip Johnson and his wife, Sherri, of Fannett; Everett Johnson and his wife, Raquel, of Fannett; and Jason Johnson and his wife, Laura, of Zavalla; aunts, Grace Miklos and her husband, Steve, of Silsbee; Gloria Miller and her husband, Bobby, of Beaumont; and René Comer of Beaumont; stepsister, D'Anna Stelly of Beaumont; fourteen cousins; former teammates; and numerous friends. A gathering of Joey's family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. His funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 31, 2013, at Broussard's, with interment to follow at Walton Cemetery, Lumberton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joey's name to Hamshire-Fannett Scholarship Fund, P.O Box 223, Hamshire, Texas 77622. He was greatly loved by all and will be truly missed.
