Joye Lee Williams Eckols, on November 9, 2013 died peacefully at the age of 86. Joye was born on July 22, 1927, in Christoval, Texas, and was raised in Beaumont, Texas. She attended Lamar Junior College where she met Glen Elwood Eckols, her husband of 51 years. Joye received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas and earned a Master of Education from Stephen F. Austin University. Joye taught 2nd grade for many years, retiring while at Longfellow Elementary in HISD. Joye joined her husband, Glen, in lifelong service to the United Methodist Church. Joye is predeceased by her husband Glen Eckols. She is survived by four daughters, Nancy and John Hock of Anderson, Peggy and Bob Tompkins of Austin, Janice and Bill Carpenter of Lumberton and Linda Eckols of Bellaire; ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and special niece, Katherine and Kim Rodgers of Bellaire. The family appreciates the loving support of her many friends and the gentle care of the staff at the Cottage of Spring Branch. Visitation will be Friday, November 15, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 1101 Antoine Drive, Houston, Texas 77055. Interment will be at Texas Methodist Conference Cemetery (Lakeview Cemetery) at 3:00 p.m. in Palestine, Texas. In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial donations in honor of Joye Lee Williams Eckols to Lakeview Methodist Conference Center, 400 Private Road 6036, Palestine, Texas 75801-4350 would be greatly appreciated.
