Dear Joan,
It was truly an honor to know you and Top. I remember when he first came to French High, he was scared to death to teach the kids. Here I was a young principal who had served in the Army during Vietnam, but never saw combat. I thought, here is a true hero and he is concerned about teaching a bunch of kids. Well it didn't take Top long to realize he was a natural to teaching. He touched a lot of young lives and it was truly an honor for me to work with him. I know he had some issues with some of the events during his service, but he brought comfort to me in my own issues of never having served in combat yet losing some my close friends I had trained with.

Top was a true American, a beloved educator, and a real American hero. May God bless you and your family.

To the Poulson family,
My son was an ROTC student of Top's at Westbrook in the late 80's and Top was such a wonderful influence on him. I had the good fortune to chaperone many of the trips the group took so I got to know Top well. He was such a wonderful man. Because of his service to our country and his teaching of the young people of Beaumont, he will be missed by many. Peace be with you and your family.
