Lee Hicks of Spurger was born October 4, 1927, and peacefully entered heaven on July 13, 2013 at the age of 85. A life-long resident of Texas, Lockey graduated from Spurger High School and then served in the U.S. Army in Europe from 1945 to 1947. After being honorably discharged, Lockey returned to Spurger where he met the love of his life, Billie Sheffield, with whom he enjoyed a blessed marriage for more than 63 years. Lockey worked for Texaco for 38 years during which time Lockey and Billie made their home in Nederland. Lockey spent most of his career with Texaco at the Port Arthur refinery but also worked for Texaco Development Co. in Sicily, Finland and Yugoslavia. After his retirement, Lockey and Billie returned to Spurger where they lived and raised cattle on the family farm. Lockey was a member of Nederland Masonic Lodge No. 1368 and later of Snow River Masonic Lodge No. 385. At Snow River Lodge, he served for many years as Lodge Secretary and also was the Worshipful Master. Lockey also served the Grand Lodge of Texas as a District Instructor and District Deputy Grand Master, and as Grand Tyler of the Grand Lodge of Texas in 2008. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and Beaumont Commandery No. 38 of the Knights Templar. Lockey was also a member of Spurger Eastern Star Chapter No. 315, where he served as Worthy Patron three times. Lockey was a member of First Baptist Church of Spurger and was active in Gideon's International. He served on the Board of the Tyler County Appraisal District as the nominee of the Spurger I.S.D. He was chairman of the appraisal board at the time of his death. Lockey was preceded in death by his parents, Jackson Chester Hicks and Martha Catherine Hicks, three brothers, James Hicks, J.C. Hicks and Johnny Hicks, and two sisters, Rena Chapman and Katy Donaldson. He is survived by his loving wife Billie of Spurger, son William A. Hicks and wife Sharon of Fort Worth, and grandchildren Brandon Hicks of Woodbridge, Virginia, Bryce Hicks of Coronado, California, Brett Hicks and wife Shawna of Pensacola, Florida, Briley Hicks and wife Haley of Midland, Brenna Hicks of Fort Worth and Sheridan Davis of Midland, sister Ann Lambert and husband Jim of Fort Worth, and brother-in-law Vic Jeter and wife Estelle of Pahrump, Nevada. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday July 16, 2013 at Riley Funeral Home in Woodville. Funeral services will be held Wednesday July 17, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Spurger, with Brothers John Denby and Paul Vick officiating followed by a Masonic service also at the church. Burial will follow at Turner Branch Cemetery in Spurger. Pallbearers will be William A. Hicks, Brandon Hicks, Brett Hicks, Briley Hicks, Raymond Holland and Robert Ramer, Jr.
