Luther Pierce Hendon II, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on October 24, 2013, four days before his 66th birthday. Pierce was born October 28, 1947 in Marietta, GA and was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Lorene Hendon and brother, Keith Hendon. He is survived by his wife of 45 ½ years, Deborah Wells Hendon. Survivors include daughter and husband Lori and Rev. Tim Manning and their children, Hayden, Ron Anders, Kaylee, and Peter; daughter and husband Robin and Major David Watts and their children, Mary Beth, Isabella and Makayla; son and wife Trey and Leslie Hendon; sister and husband, Tena and Mike Warren; brother and wife, Larry and Kathy Hendon; brother and partner, Jimmy Hendon and Chris Hann; mother-in-law, Mary Jane Wells; brother-in-law and wife, Rev. David and Angie Wells, as well as numerous other relatives. Pierce graduated from Forest Park High School and Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. He later earned a Certified Financial Planner degree and Certification. With an unwavering love for God, he served as Minister of Music, Youth, Associate Pastor and Business Administrator in Southern Baptist Churches in Texas, South Carolina, and Kentucky for 33 years. One of Pierce's greatest joys was singing with his wife and family. In his last several years as an active member of Castle Hills First Baptist Church in San Antonio, TX, he loved to sing in the choir and praise team. Pierce was instrumental in the planning stages for the High Point Academy Charter Schools in Spartanburg, SC and Fort Worth, TX. The Spartanburg school has been state approved and will open Fall 2014. Pierce's passion was the aquaponics and hydroponics lab that the school is preparing to set up. There will be a memorial service at Calvary Baptist Church, 3650 Dowlen Rd, Beaumont, TX 77706, on Thursday, November 21, 2013, at 11:00 am. Visitation with the family will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations and gifts be sent to: High Point Academy, Inc., a nonprofit charter school, 201 Savoy St., Spartanburg, SC 29301, or TheHighPoint
