Mary Alice West Spivey passed away on October 20, 2013 in Woodville, Texas. Mary Alice was born on May 29, 1936 in Woodville to Riley Province West and Lela Lewis West. Mary Alice married Lester Merle Moe Spivey on February 13, 1958 in Gretna, Louisiana. They lived in Buras, Louisiana for eight years, working for Gulf Oil and dodging hurricanes. They moved to Houston, Texas and then on to Lagos, Nigeria on a work assignment for Gulf which offered a great experience for their three sons. Mary Alice had been a resident of Warren for many years. Mary Alice was an Adult Sunday School teacher at Beacon Bay Missionary Baptist Church on Lake Livingston. Mary Alice, known in later years as G, served with her husband, Moe, as foster parents for over fifty children who needed them to provide a loving, stable home. Mary Alice is survived by her husband, Moe Spivey, of Warren, four children and seven grandchildren. Her sons are Kyle Spivey and wife, Candace, of Warren, Keith Spivey and wife, Stacie, of Nashville, Tennessee, and Kelly Spivey and wife, Fran, of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by daughter, Keri Len Spivey of Warren. Her grandchildren are Jacob Spivey, Jordan Spivey, Austin Spivey, Julie Spivey, Keith Spivey, Jr., Kevin Spivey, and Katherine Spivey. Mary Alice is also survived by brothers, Bobby West and wife Shirley of Warren and Bill West and wife Lorri of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and sisters Juanita Thompson and Betty Ruth Stanley both of Zavalla, Texas. She is also survived by many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. She will be especially missed by friends in the foster child care community where she was honored to be named Foster Parent of the Year. Services were held on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 10:00 at Riley Funeral Home in Woodville, Texas. Officiating were Mary Alices nephew, Brother Rusty West, son, Keith Spivey, and grandson, Jacob Spivey. Internment followed at Mount Pisgah Cemetery in Woodville, Texas. @
