Mary Jane Conn O'Dell passed away peacefully at MRC Creekside Retirement Community in Huntsville, Texas, on November 27, 2013. She was born on February 16, 1931, to Leslie and Janice Conn in Kirbyville, Texas. Mary Jane graduated from Kirbyville High School in 1948 and earned degrees in Chemistry from Texas State College for Women, now Texas Woman's University. She worked in petroleum research at Shell and American Oil before raising two sons in Texas City, Texas. She taught math in Texas City for 15 years. With her husband she was a charter member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Texas City. She served as president of the United Methodist Women and the Texas City Day Nursery. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her sisters Sarah Ferguson and Cornelia Gordon. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Stewart O'Dell; sons Stewart Conn and Thomas Wyatt O'Dell; daughter-in-law, Lynn Mathre; sister, Carolyn Ann Conn; brother, John Silas Conn; and by several nieces and nephews. Mary Jane's concern was always for others, and she never exhausted the list of things she found to do for them. Family will receive friends Monday, December 2, 2013, 4:00-7:00 p.m., at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2013, 11:00 a.m., at Adam's E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville, Texas.
