Melba Mackey Downs Tribble passed from this life on April 7, 2013, leaving behind a wonderful legacy of faith, selflessness, love, and dedication to family that touched and influenced the lives of many. She was born in San Marcos, on April 24, 1922, to Jewel Downing Mackey and Thomas Bret Macke. The family moved to Navasota, where she graduated, with honors, from Navasota High School. Melba married her high school sweetheart, the late Elliott Milton Downs and together they raised four daughters in Beaumont. She was an exemplary loving mother and wife, who was the ultimate homemaker. After her daughters were grown, she became the Nursery Director of Calder Baptist Church for many years, where she was a longtime member. Melba continued her friendship with the children in the nursery until the end of her life. Her love of all things beautiful led her to a passionate interest in art, where she expressed this love of nature and animals with her beautiful watercolor paintings. Her smile and natural beauty would inspire others to live with enthusiasm. Following the loss of her husband, Milton Downs, she married the late Elton Tribble, a close family friend. He brought to the marriage two children and numerous grandchildren, all of whom were welcomed by her daughters. Melba leaves four daughters, their spouses, children, grandchildren, stepchildren, their children, nephew, and nieces: daughters, Linda Downs Bertman, Kathy Downs Traylor, Rebecca Downs Busceme, and Julie Downs Hatcher; grandchildren, Jennifer Bertman Stein; Kentis Tindall and his wife, Tammy; and Carlo Busceme, IV; great-grandchildren, Jordan Stein, Jade Stein, Kenny Tindall, Kathryn Tindall, and Cierra White; her adored sons-in-law, Wes Traylor, his children, Mark, Paul, and Tracy, and numerous grandchildren; and Jim Hatcher, his daughters, Shanna and Paige, and numerous grandchildren; nephew, Michael Warlick; and nieces, Patricia Mackey and Donna Kay Mackey, and their children. She also leaves the children of Elton Tribble: Kathy Tribble Fetner and her husband, Haywood and Surry Tribble, along with numerous children and grandchildren. Melba will be welcomed into Heaven by her mother; father; sister, Loella Warlick; brother, Donald Mackey; her late husbands, Milton Downs and Elton Tribble; and late son-in-law, Jimmie Bertman. A memorial service, in celebration of her life, is to be conducted at eleven o'clock in the morning on Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont, where The Reverend Dr. James R. Fuller is to officiate. There will be a private interment in Oakland Cemetery, Navasota, Texas. Complete and updated information may be found at:
